I hope everyone had a fine Thanksgiving and weathered the Midwestern snowstorm safely. The week was full of food. We mapped out the preparation, so each day involved tackling just one or two dishes. By Thursday morning there was nothing to do but put the turkey in the oven. If you haven’t learned this yet, the best approach to that part of the meal is to do nothing but turn up the heat to 425 degrees and turn it down to 325 after half an hour. No brining. No basting. Try it next year. We enjoyed the company of a small group of friends, followed by a weekend of our favorite meals – leftovers – plus a pizza-blessed mean with beloved family who weren’t available to join us at the Thanksgiving table.
There was no brain space for a more substantive posting, not even one about Trump’s most fascistic rantings yet about immigrants, particularly Afghans and Somalis. He continues to sully our image of what it means to be an American. We will return to that painfully real world next week. Meanwhile we will stay focused on gratitude for the family, friends and community that continue to fill our lives with love.
See you next week.
